Rainforest Retreat is a 2-hour ambient video blending calming visuals and modernist architecture. This 3D environment was firstly modelled inĀ Cinema4D to shape the foundations of the scene. From there, I brought the world to life in Unreal Engine 5, where lighting, materials, and rendering added depth, vibrancy, and an immersive quality to the final result. I also composed the ambient music and sound effects in Ableton Live.

The stylistic vision emphasizes tranquility, escapism, and the coexistence of nature and architecture. The tropical rainforest setting enhances the meditative quality, supported by the interplay of ambient lighting, reflective surfaces, and rainfall. The combination of modernist design with organic integration results in a luxurious yet grounded aesthetic, evoking feelings of sanctuary and introspection.
The integration of natural elements like tropical plants and open water reflects biophilic principles, which aim to connect occupants to the natural world through design.
While neon lighting and minimalism nod to Y2K futurism, the use of natural materials and tropical scenery softens the setting, making it less clinical and more grounded.
The rain, subdued color palette, and ambient neon lighting contribute to a liminal, dreamlike quality. This aesthetic evokes a sense of calm introspection, blurring the line between reality and imagination.
The architecture shares similarities with the works of tropical modernist architects like Geoffrey Bawa, focusing on creating a seamless experience of nature within luxury.
